Students' Perceptions of School Counselors and Help-Seeking Intentions among Male Vocational High School Students: A Correlational Study

Abstract

The interest in counseling among male students at school remains relatively low, even though Guidance and Counseling services are available, so it is important to understand the factors that influence it. This study aims to examine the relationship between perceptions of school counselors and male students' interest in counseling at vocational high schools. The research uses a quantitative correlational approach with Spearman's rank correlation analysis. The sample consisted of 226 male students selected using probability sampling with a cluster sampling method. Data were collected through questionnaires measuring perceptions of school counselors (α = 0.942) and interest in counseling (α = 0.907), both of which met reliability criteria. The results indicate a positive and significant relationship between perceptions of school counselors and students' interest in counseling, with a significance value of 0.000 and a correlation coefficient of 0.670. The more positive students' perceptions of school counselors, the greater their interest in seeking counseling services.
