Peran Guru Bahasa Indonesia Terhadap Pengembangan Kemampuan Membaca Siswa Kelas X SMK Jagakarsa Jakarta Selatan

This study aims to describe the role of Indonesian language teachers in developing the reading skills of tenth-grade students at SMK Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, using interviews, observation, and documentation. The results indicate that Indonesian language teachers play a dominant role in developing reading skills. The teacher's role is not limited to facilitator roles. Their roles as program manager, demonstrator, guide, motivator, and evaluator are dominant factors in developing reading skills. Supporting factors include collaboration with parents, while barriers include limited reading media, the influence of electronic media, and the social environment. By optimizing the teacher's role as program manager, demonstrator, guide, motivator, and evaluator, students' reading skills can improve, both in terms of comprehension and interest
